* And the award goes to…

Pete Springer!

Pete is a new blogger and author of a terrific book about his teaching experiences, “They Call Me Mom.” For those of you who haven’t checked out Pete’s blog, you’re in for a treat. He is a retired teacher who has always dreamed of writing children’s books and has one for middle school students on the way. Pete also continues to serve others through his volunteer work, helping to support literacy and teachers who need a boost.

The Liebster Award is especially for outstanding bloggers who are are new to this online world. It is given in recognition of super posts, while encouraging the author to hunt down other new bloggers and share the award.

Pete, you just need to answer these questions and then find two other bloggers who are also deserving of this award. You can create your own questions for them or use the ones below.

  • What led you into the world of blogging?
  • What has most surprised you about this online world?
  • How do you decide what to post? Do you have a schedule or routine for your blog?
  • Tell us one thing about yourself that we would never have imagined.
  • What has been the greatest difficulty you’ve faced as a new blogger?
  • What would you tell someone who is considering starting a blog?

Be sure to head over to Pete’s blog and congratulate him on his Liebster Award!

* Continuing the Liebster process

James O’Neil kindly nominated me for the Liebster award, which I had already received but who would want to miss out on the fun of nominating their personal favorite bloggers?  I had planned to post this a lot sooner but have been sick.

I am to answer James’ questions and and since I think the questions are terrific, I’m passing them on to my nominees:   Group by GroupFaraday’s Candle (who are currently on vacation),  David Snape and Friends,  Staycation Atlanta, and Vamp It Up Manchester.   Then these folks get to create their own set of questions. (Or borrow James” great set?)

  1. Which sex do you think has it easier in your culture?  If we look at salaries and powerful positions, men still have the advantage.  Especially white men.
  2. What is your most treasured memory?  Meeting my dearest widower as a 19 year old in community college.  He smiled and my heart was captivated.
  3. For a person you loved deeply, would you be willing to move to a distant country knowing there would be little chance of seeing your friends or family again?  Definitely for my dearest widower.  Fortunately, he is not interested in moving anywhere.
  4. For what in your life do you feel most grateful?  Being pursued and loved by Jesus.
  5. What makes you angry?  Racism and bullying.
  6. Did your schooling connect to your life?  So much so that I became a teacher for life!
  7. Have you seen a good movie lately?  What made it good?  Not too many good movies around.  I like sci fi, action, and spy thrillers.  I recently took a squad of kiddos to Zootopia and the animation is terrific.
  8. Who is the most important person in your life today?  My dearest teaching widower.
  9. What is the greatest accomplishment of your life?   Teaching and loving kids.
  10. Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as your dinner guest?   Friends and family.
  11. What do you like best about your life?   That I am loved by my widower and my heavenly Father.liebster-award

* Thanks to Someone

liebster-award
Someone
, namely James O’Neil, has been nominated for the Liebster Award.  His blog features interesting memories of the past, all spiced with a wry sense of humor.  Originally from Chicago, he shares traditions, escapades, and his strong opinions.  As someone with equally strong opinions, I appreciate his writing and experiences.  I can tell that he enjoys good cooking, too.  James has nominated me for the Liebster Award, and although I have already gone through that process, being nominated is a terrific way to share blogs I enjoy reading.  It’s lovely to write a blog that someone enjoys!

Here are the Liebster rules:

If nominated for the award, and accept, write a blog post about the award in which you were nominated.  Thank the blogger who nominated you with a link back to his/her blog. THANK YOU, JAMES!  Display the award on your blog.  Answer 11 questions asked by the nominator.  Nominate 5-11 other bloggers.  Create 11 new questions for the nominee.  List these rules on your post so others know what is expected (TOMORROW!).

Here are some of my favorite bloggers, excluding those who are “award free.”  Some of my faves are bloggers who’ve been there, done that.  And my nominees are free to graciously decline the award.

1. One of my favorite special ed blogs is Group by Group.  This blog features a team of specialists who create the coolest theme-based activities and generously share their books.  Want to know if they are successful?  Just look at the kids’ faces.

2.  Faraday’s Candle is a science-based blog written by two sisters, one in middle school and the other an elementary student.  They LOVE science and explore all kinds of interesting topics.  Want to know what those bumps on your tongue really do?  Check them out!

3.  A blogger who features others’ writing AND has hosts his own radio show is David Snape and Friends.  David shares his early struggles with autism, the isolation and academic difficulties, but has certainly found his way.  His blog is a treasure chest of jewels written by others (and sometimes by him).

4.  Staycation Atlanta is written by a sweet lady who shares her explorations of Atlanta, along with photos of THE most adorable dog.  Those eyes!  It’s amazing how much ground Jan covers in her blog.  And yummy food!

5.  Chrissie, of Vamp It Up Manchester, would be SO much fun to spend time with!  She’s a self-described “urban geek,” and her eclectic posts feature food, fashion, organization, and cool STUFF.  She’s is a clever and frugal shopper.  My inspiration.

I will post the questions tomorrow.  This post is already over 400 words.  Yikes!
