I have enjoyed using Peggy Lane’s “Rock Book: Rocks and Minerals for Kids.” (Click here for her author page on Amazon.) Her book is subtitled, “A Fun Fact Rock Book for Kids with FAQ, Pictures, Jokes, Games, and Geology.” That’s a mouthful, but all of that in this fabulous resource. Lane manages to cover a lot of ground (pun intended) in “Rock Book,” including terrific photos, a comprehensive look at rocks and minerals, and good links for further exploration. Even her jokes are clever. My favorite image is of the world’s largest rock. Truly amazing.
Why is this book a good choice for special needs kids? It’s well-organized, includes “wow” images, and provides enough information to get students engaged and ready to learn even more. Kids will appreciate the opportunity to memorize some science jokes to enhance their social credit, as well.
